I must also with regret, because I really want to be there, request an excused
absence for this very important upcoming meeting. I am not in the country. I am
at present in Dalat in the central highlands of Vietnam in service teaching
English to the poorest of the poor. English fluency is their ticket out of
poverty and is part of the government's "Learn English for a better future"
campaign.

This is a request for a work related leave of absence for which there is ample
precedent in the past. I have also submitted my request to the iED as I am not
sure who has the greater authority here. I do not wish this request to become a
partisan matter.
